Then the awful liberals stole more money from conservatives by forcing them to build cleaner factories, end pollution and clean up toxic waste.

This is something that ticks me off because I’m liberal in the classic sense of the word, It annoys me to have someone on the left called liberal, there aren’t any more liberals in the DNP, honest liberals today call themselves Libertarian, libertarian leaning Democrat or libertarian Republican. After Woodrow Wilson, the word Progressive left a bad taste in American’s mouth, it still lived on in Europe, but in America anyone who called themselves progressive had an uphill battle. After Wilson Republicans took control of Washington DC. So they started calling themselves liberal, but that didn’t even work until Herbert Hoover, himself a Progressive that didn’t call himself a progressive, took office and had some horrible reactions to the economic downturn in 1930. It was then the newly named ‘Liberals’ took control once again and pretty much held congress until the 1990s, but by then they had ruined the word liberal. Ronald Reagan regularly used the word as a swipe, but even then Progressive wasn’t widely resurrected until Hillary Clinton started mentioning it while running for Senate. So since the word Liberal had been ruined, Bill Clinton ran passionately denying he was liberal, that he was a new new Democrat, that wanted common sense solutions and the era of big government was dead.
