I walked the rounds up his body (right foot, right thigh, right forearm, right lung, aorta, then left lung) until he fell backwards. How I was able to shoot his forearm where the butcher knife was is beyond me. They say you subconsciously focus on the lethal threat, I guess that’s true. What I can say is shooting him in the foot, the leg and the forearm didn’t stop him. I was told later on, the shots in the lungs and the heart independently would have been fatal rounds but with adrenaline and determination, the suspect would have been able to continue his attack and kill me. It took a combination of multiple shots to bring down the man that would have killed me.
